Elisma's journey to becoming a Physiotherapist was not straight-forward:
She first obtained a degree in B.Comm Marketing Management at the University of Pretoria, but after years of working with people in different business settings realised that “something was just missing” in her life.
Becoming a Physiotherapist was not a career change, but a calling. Elisma has always felt drawn to the idea of helping people, and this was her chance, finally finding the path that would lead her to where she is today!
She was able to follow her dream and qualified through the University of the Witwatersrand in 2013. Her determination and desire to help others saw her graduate as the top academic student of that year.
She completed her community service year at Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg, where she worked in the outpatient Pain Management department for several months, forming part of a multi-disciplinary team in the management of chronic pain patients. This sparked her interest and devotion to the treatment of complex and persistent pain conditions.
In 2015, she joined a Physiotherapy Pain Management Practice in Johannesburg, and in 2016 became a partner, where she gained extensive knowledge and experience in managing chronic and complex pain conditions, such as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), peripheral neuropathic conditions, auto immune and inflammatory pain conditions, etc.
